Dowd Bennett Sponsors NBPA Youth Conference

Dowd Bennett sponsored the National Black Prosecutors Association’s (“NBPA”) National Youth Conference held in conjunction with the 33rd NBPA Annual meeting.  The Youth Conference was held July 13-14th at the Hilton Ballpark in St. Louis.  The Youth Conference is designed to introduce youth to the legal profession for the purpose of fostering healthy relationships between law enforcement officers and communities.  The Youth Conference hosted over 80 middle and high school students and engaged them in college prep activities such as resume writing and ACT/SAT prep.  The Conference also offered students an in-depth look at the U.S. legal system through mock trial simulations, public speaking and argument drafting.

In addition to sponsoring the Youth Conference, Dowd Bennett Summer Associates partnered with NBPA leaders to lead the Conference.  Summer Associates, Derick Dailey and Jimmy Martin, led the students on a tour of the Old Courthouse in downtown St. Louis, facilitated a mock trial, offered career advice and worked with students to develop short-term and long-term professional goals.  Derick Dailey and Jimmy Martin are third-year law students at Fordham University School of Law in New York
City and St. Louis University School of Law in St. Louis, respectively.
