Dowd Bennett LLP Serves as Title Sponsor for 2018 Walk to Defeat ALS®
On Saturday, June 23, 2018, more than 4,500 supporters walked, ran or rolled during the 2018 St. Louis Walk to Defeat ALS presented by Dowd Bennett LLP.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), which is more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a fatal, neuromuscular disease that slowly deprives its victims of both their mobility and their ability to breathe. The Walk to Defeat ALS includes people with ALS, their families and friends, all participating in honor of someone with the disease or in memory of someone they have lost. Money raised from the Walk funds the search for treatments and a cure for ALS as well as supports people with the disease and their caregivers.
To date, the 2018 Walk has raised nearly $400,000. Over $38,000 of that amount was raised by Dowd Bennett partner Kelly Murrie and her team, Team Tammy Hardy, established after her sister lost her battle to ALS. This was the 10th year for their team to raise funds and awareness in Tammy’s memory.
At this year’s Walk everyone was given a colored key to represent the reason they were Walking. The keys represent the commitment to unlocking the barriers to effective and compassionate care, to unlocking the physical constraints which threaten patients’ everyday existence, and to unlocking the medical mysteries which will someday lead us to a cure. The keys were to show that each and every person who raises funds and awareness for ALS could be the key to Unlocking ALS. Team Tammy Hardy held white keys as they led the Unlocking ALS portion of the opening ceremony.
