Dowd Bennett Partner Michelle Nasser Appointed to Supreme Court of Missouri Combatting Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence Commission, Human Trafficking Subcommittee
On June 30, 2017, Michelle Nasser was appointed by Supreme Court of Missouri Chief Justice Patricia Breckenridge to serve as a member of the Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence Commission and the Human Trafficking Subcommittee for a term expiring June 30, 2020. The goals of the Commission, which was established on November 7, 2016, are to develop programs, tools, and procedures to improve the means by which courts can better protect victims of human trafficking and domestic violence and hold offenders accountable by: (1) developing programs to educate judges and court personnel on how to identify those suffering from the effects of human trafficking and domestic violence and how to ameliorate those effects; (2) develop community resources to improve methods of recognizing and investigating human trafficking and domestic violence; (3) improve public awareness of court programs available to combat human trafficking and domestic violence, including the order of protection process; and (4) improve coordination within all divisions of the circuit court to provide redress to those injured by human trafficking and domestic violence consistent with the court’s duty to act promptly, efficiently, fairly, and impartially.
